And I’m back in Byron Bay again. This time it was Australia Day, with Toby, Eunice, Anna and their gang. I could only stay for one night but it was well worth the drive down from Brisbane.
I can’t imagine a more idyllic way to spend Australia Day. We spent the morning at Clarke’s Beach where Eunice and I did some serious work on our tans while the boys kicked around a ball. In true blue Aussie form, this was followed by beers and a barbecue (well done boys).
Then in the evening, we counted down Triple J’s Hottest 100 on the dance floor of Byron Beach Hotel. Being a true summer’s day in the east coast, a tropical thunderstorm raged outside all night long. When the night ended, I ran back to my car in my swimming togs, waving the Australian flag above me as a makeshift umbrella for a good 500 metres. It looked truly patriotic.
